Forestry & Lumber
SKEANS has always pioneered in the forestry and lumber industry, starting with the co-developed SKEANS NOPAK SG heavy duty cylinder, a cornerstone in British Columbia and beyond.
SKEANS knows the Forestry & Lumber industry in Western Canada is constantly encountering new and old projects that require large-scale applications. For those projects we offer a variety of Rotating Equipment Solutions, Pneumatic Automation Solutions, and Electric automation applications. This includes everything from MAC Valves, NOPAK & TRD Cylinders & Actuators, Compressed Air Systems, audits, and energy management systems.
We also offer a wide range of measurement, safety, and guarding products that will keep your employees safe when working in those dangerous environments.
Blower and Vacuum Applications
Holding and lifting
To ensure safe processing, work pieces are automatically clamped to the processing table by means of suction heads. A stable and constant minimum vacuum must be generated to ensure that work pieces are held securely in place during mechanical processing.
Preservation
Before or after processing, wood must be protected against the destructive effects of environmental influences such as heat, moisture, insects and micro-organisms. The practice of soaking the wood in a preservative solution is widespread, but has the disadvantage that the liquid penetrates only a few millimeters into the wood. Complete protection is possible, however, if the wood is degassed and dried with the aid of a vacuum pump. The preservative agent then penetrates much deeper and optimizes the protective effect.
Wood dryers
The use of vacuum dryers in conventional wood drying chambers can reduce a typical drying time from several weeks to a mere 3 to 4 days. During the drying process, pressure in the chamber is gradually reduced to the minimum. The chamber is pressurized with steam and the air is extracted to prevent cracks and colour changes in the wood that can be caused by too high an oxygen content. Radial fans circulate the steam and convey the heat to the wood. Further steam condensate will be exhausted from the drying chamber.
Woodworking
No matter what the type or size of woodworking operation, rotary vane compressors play an integral role in providing reliability and low cost operation that cannot be matched by traditional rotary screw or piston type compressors.
Virtually every type of woodworking business, including millwork operations, furniture & cabinet manufacturers, and OEMs can benefit from the reliability, simplicity and efficiency of Mattei compressed air systems.
They allow for the use of air-operated tools which are easier to use and lighter than electrically-operated tools, making them ideal in many woodworking operations.
Compressed air is also key to accurate painting and finishing of wood products.
Many of these firms have converted to rotary vane compressors attracted by their easy implementation, lower initial costs, and innate simplicity. In addition, rotary vane compressors are more tolerant of the dust created by woodworking applications versus rotary screw or scroll compressors.
Mattei’s quality compressors provide the dependability necessary to all of these applications, and the energy/cost savings that help make a business run better. They are designed to provide superior air compression while increasing efficiency and cost savings significantly.
MAC Valves, Inc. is a global leader in air valve solutions for the Wood Processing industry. Reliability & Repeatability are just two of many core benefits present in the solutions that we provide. In large part the valves, mainly Large 4-way and some Large 3-way, are located in mills and other outdoor environments. (Areas that are typically less than desirable for an air valve to operate in.)
Due to MAC Valves’ design and our ability to manage environmental contamination as well as the capability to perform in wide temperature ranges, our valves are able to handle all of the challenges present in these applications. This affords us the ability to provide customers with increased uptime as well as increased production throughput.
Lumber Processing
Minimize downtime and employee injuries with Efficient and non-damaging handling of heavy loads, achieved with lifting equipment adapted for your operational demands. TAWI provide not only high quality solutions but also offer full service and maintenance agreements to support your operations and reduce the risk of unnecessary downtime.
- Save money with TAWI solutions
- Minimize downtime and employee injuries
- Achieve time efficient material handling
Handling long and heavy wooden planks is one example of a challenging task that typically requires more than one person to perform. If done by hand without lifting systems, dependent on one or a few strong individuals, it can easily become a source of unnecessary downtime and productivity loss.
Performing this heavy task repeatedly by hand also puts a lot of strain on the workers bodies, with long term health problems as a major risk. TAWI offers hoist lifts and steel crane systems engineered to resolve these heavy lifting challenges.
Without reliable lifting aids, moving heavy, bulky and fragile components also comes with an increased risk of damaging the materials. Our lifting equipment for sheet metal, glass and wood panels ensure precise transporting and positioning of even the most heavy and bulky materials.
All TAWI lifters have a robust and sturdy Scandinavian design, reliable for handling everything from heavy wood panels, metal sheets or sensitive windows and laminates.
Need to move complete walls? No problem.
Moving complete walls require electrically powered lift systems with reliable and robust design. TAWI offers hoist lifts and steel crane systems engineered to resolve these heavy lifting challenges.
Easily maneuvered with a simple remote control, the operator can lift, steer and precisely place the heavyweight materials in a controlled and efficient way.
Sensor solutions for hydraulic and eccentric presses
Hydraulic and eccentric presses are used for the entire spectrum of wood forming. When forming with manually operated presses, it is important to reliably protect the operator against injuries. In addition to operation that is optimized for safety at work, e.g., through mandatory two-handed operation, the safety devices must be designed so that they cannot be circumvented. To meet the requirements specified by EN 692/693, the sequence of press movements for mechanical and hydraulic presses must be monitored by a safety control. Our sensor and control solutions can be intelligently incorporated into the machines’ processes, reliably secure them, and render them tamperproof.
Sensor solutions for punching machines and laser-cutting machines
Punching machines and laser-cutting machines separate very quickly and precisely smaller parts from large wood sheets. When processing wood sheets with punch presses or with laser cutting, safety at work plays an important role, as work is performed with high pressure and high-energy laser beams. In addition, the sensor system used must be able to detect very small stamping parts to ensure a fault-free production process. Our sensor solutions reliably and flexibly safeguard endangered areas and minimize the influence on the workflows. Moreover, sensors check for tool availability, prevent collisions, and monitor the ejection.
